serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the town of Christchurch, in the
place of Joseph Brittan, Esq., resigned;
NOW therefore, I, the said Charles Simeon,
Esq., returning-officer for the Town of
Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of
the said recited writ, give notice that a
public meeting of the electors of the town
of Christchurch, will be holden in the
Market Place of the town of Christchurch,
on Friday, the 24th day of August next,
at noon, for the purpose of nominating one
person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the town of Christchurch;
and in the event of a poll being demanded
for the candidates or any of them, such
polling shall take place on Saturday, the
25th day of August next in the lobby of
the Provincial Council Chamber at Christchurch. The voting to commence at any
time after nine o’clock, a.m., of the said
day, and to close at four o’clock p.m. of
the same day.

Province of Canterbury to Wit:

WHEREAS a writ under the hand of
James Edward Fitz Gerald, Esq.,
Superintendent of the said Province, bearing date the sixth day of August, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, hath been directed to
me, Charles Simeon, Esq., as returning
officer for the Christchurch Country District, in the said Province, requiring and
commanding me to cause to be elected by
and from amongst the voters duly qualified
for that purpose, freely and indifferently,
and in form and manner by law prescribed,
One Person to serve as a member of the
Provincial Council for the Christchurch
Country District in place of Henry John
Tancred, Esq., resigned; NOW therefore,
I, the said Charles Simeon, Esq., Returning-Officer for the Christchurch Country
District do hereby in pursuance of the said
recited writ, give notice, that a public meeting of the electors of the Christchurch
Country District, will be holden in the

HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT
DENT directs it to be notified for
general information that writs for the
election of members for the Town of Christchurch, and the Christchurch Country district having been issued in accordance with
clause 12 of an Act of Parliament passed
in the 16th and 17th years of Her present
Majesty, entitled an Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of
New Zealand:—The Returning Officer for
the Town of Christchurch and the said
District has returned the said writs with
certificates to the effect that the undermentioned gentlemen have been duly elected
to serve as members of the said Provincial
Council:—

For the Town of Christchurch,
Joseph Brittan, Esq.,

For the Christchurch Country District,
Henry John Tancred, Esq.
