| Messenger in Immigration Office, Auckland. |
Auckland, 15th May, 1876.
To Hon. Minister for Immigration,
Wellington.
Your letter of the 29th instant, No. 52, received.
I am sorry that I cannot agree, for various reasons, in the propriety of any of the arrangements you propose. There is no necessity for my going into this subject. If you desire to reduce the expenditure of the Immigration Department here [it is in my opinion quite an unnecessary department] the whole of its duties can be performed in the Superintendent’s Office, at no additional cost to the public.
G. GREY.
