38 M William Blackall 40 Fracture of skull 1874, July 10 1874, July 10 8 hours 38. Admitted in a state of coma from fracture of the skull, caused by a blow from a boom on shipboard. Cranium trephined; much coagulum or dura mater compressing middle lobe of brain on left side. Inquest held.
39 M David Sharp 34 Heart disease June 5 July 12 37 39. Heart disease, with general dropsy; much relief was experienced by acer puncture of legs and feet. Gradually succumbed. Heart found hypertrophied; mitral orifice contracted, roughened with calcareous deposit. Aortic valves shrunk and contracted. Urine scanty.
40 M Daniel Joseph O’Keeffe 45 Hæmatemesis July 21 July 25 5 40. Before admission had a violent attack of hæmatemesis. On admission was pulseless, aneuric, delirium, coma, and death. Two-thirds of the mucous membrane of the stomach destroyed by ulceration. A large patch of ecchymoses seen on lesser curvature. Liver in a state of cirrhosis, waxy.
41 M James Mager 50 Paralysis June 25 July 31 36 41. Admitted with paralysis caused by a fall into a cellar. There was evidently injury of the spine in the dorsal region. Mental faculties unimpaired. Brain found healthy.
42 F Mary Nichols 34 Heart disease July 30 Aug. 1 3 42. Admitted with heart disease. Had great dyspnoea and lividity of face. Heart found greatly enlarged. Aorta valves puckered and roughened. Orifice contracted. Right lung oedematous, with a large patch of pulmonary apoplexy. Liver enlarged and nutmegged.
43 M William Watts 25 Heart disease Aug. 5 Aug. 10 5 43. Was labouring under extensive heart disease, with dyspnoea. Sank rapidly. Heart weighed 4lb. 9oz. Aortic valves roughened. Mitral orifice contracted. Right lung partially hepatized. Kidneys large and granular. Weight of each nine ounces.
44 F Elizabeth O’Day 23 Phthisis pulmonalis July 7 Aug. 16 40 44. Admitted in an advanced stage of phthisis pulmonalis. Large caverns in lungs.
45 M James Warboys 28 Phthisis pulmonalis July 25 Aug. 17 23 45. An ordinary case of phthisis pulmonalis.
46 M Alfred Rose 30 Phthisis pulmonalis June 10 Aug. 23 74 46. Admitted with phthisis pulmonalis, with symptoms of phthisis laryngea.
47 M James Donelly 40 Heart disease May 8 Aug. 26 110 47. Admitted affected with heart disease and dropsy. Heart weighed 1lb. 12oz. Mitral orifice dilated. Liver, nutmeg. Mucous membrane of stomach extensively ulcerated. Much serum in abdomen.
48 F Catherine Flynn 40 Cancer of womb Aug. 13 Sept. 1 19 48. Admitted with cancer of womb, and gradually sank.
