"The Lunatics Act, 1868," within the Province of Auckland, shall be exercised by the Superintendent of such Province.

WHEREAS by "The Gold Mining Districts Act, 1873," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, subject to the provisions of the said Act from time to time, to make amend, alter, and revoke regulations for, among other things, prescribing the area of claims, and for regulating the use and occupation of land held under the said Act, and mining operations therein and thereon: And whereas it is expedient that certain rules and regulations should be made for the purposes and in manner hereinafter set forth:
Now therefore, I, Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authority vested in me by the said in part recited Act, do hereby make the regulations set forth in the Schedule hereto: And I do hereby declare that the said rules and regulations shall be in force within that part of the Province of Auckland comprised within the "Hauraki Gold Field," as such gold field is now constituted under the said in part recited Act, and shall take effect therein on and after the thirty-first day of December instant.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honorable Privy Council, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at Christchurch, this eleventh day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three.

SCHEDULE.

Every claim, of whatsoever class the same may be, shall be bona fide and continuously worked, and there shall be employed therein or thereon, for gold mining purposes, at least one man for every fifteen thousand square feet of land comprised in the claim.

In these rules and regulations the word "claim" shall mean a claim held for mining purposes under "The Gold Mining Districts Act, 1873," and any regulations now in force thereunder or by virtue thereof.

I HEREBY notify that the several Chairmen of the after-named District Boards, under "The Highways Act, 1871," have reported in writing to me the names of the undermentioned persons duly appointed Officers and Members of those Boards respectively, to supply vacancies:—
PUKERUA WEST:—Jacob Henry Wright, to be Chairman, and William Routly, to be Member, vice Joseph Scott.
PAKARANGA (PAKURANGA):—James White to be Chairman; and Henry Andrew and John Nicholas, junior to be Members vice Gerald L. Peacocke and John McInerney resigned.
