ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of July, 1872.
Present:
His Excellency THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by “The Marine Act, 1867,” it is enacted that the Governor shall, from time to time, make and issue Quarantine Regulations, to be in force within any Port or Ports of the Colony, provided that all such Regulations shall, before coming into operation, be published in the New Zealand Gazette, and the Gazette of the Province to which the same shall relate:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, doth, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, and in exercise of all the powers enabling him in this behalf, make the following Quarantine Regulations to be in force in all the Ports of the Colony, and to be read with and form part of the Harbour and Quarantine Regulations, published in the New Zealand Gazette, dated 25th June, 1868, and the 20th September, 1869, respectively:
1st. The Health Officer for any Port shall have power to place or declare to be in Quarantine any vessel arriving in such Port from Honolulu, whether or not such vessel may have previously to such arrival called or touched at any other Port or Ports in New Zealand, and thereupon such vessel shall be deemed to be in Quarantine within the meaning of the said Regulations, and to be subject thereto and to the following Regulations, although such Health Officer may not find that sickness exists or has recently been on board.
2nd. Such Health Officer shall forthwith report to the Board of Health of the Port whenever he places any such vessel in Quarantine under the last Regulation.
3rd. The Board of Health for such Port, or a majority of them, shall have authority to detain any such vessel as aforesaid in Quarantine, or the crew or the passengers thereof in Lazaret, until such measures as they may have prescribed for cleansing, purifying, and disinfecting such vessel, and the passengers and crew thereof, and the goods therein, have been carried out.
