AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

For every person landing from or going on to the wharf, (crews of vessels alongside, licensed watermen, and officers of Government excepted) - 0 1

For every vessel hauling alongside Shortland Wharf £1 per quarter for vessels of 20 tons and under, and 6d. per ton per quarter additional, for all vessels over 20 tons and under 100 tons, such payments to be made in advance, commencing the quarters on the 1st January, 1st April, 1st July, and 1st October.

For every vessel not paying quarterly, the Master shall pay for every tide or part of a tide the vessel is alongside the wharf, 2s. 6d. for the first twenty tons of registered tonnage, and ¼d. per ton for each additional ton of registered tonnage.

Given under my hand at Auckland this 8th day of June, one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

And I do hereby make the following Regulation :-

One of the Licensed Watermen in rotation, according to a list placed in the Harbour Master’s Office, shall act as Night Waterman nightly throughout the year, and on no consideration shall the stairs be left, except while conveying passengers. The Night Waterman shall be on duty from sunset to sunrise. Any breach of this Regulation shall subject the Offender to a penalty of One Pound.

The house on Queen-street Wharf, known as the Watermen’s House, is set apart solely for the use of the Licensed Watermen.

Attention is called to the subjoined extracts from the Harbour Regulations for New Zealand, in reference to the duties, &c., of Watermen.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

BY virtue of the powers in me vested by “The Marine Act, 1867,” I do hereby regulate and fix the fares to be charged by Licensed Watermen plying for hire within the Port of ONEHUNGA, as follows :-

FARES.

From the Government Wharves (Geddes’ Point) to a vessel lying at the usual anchorage off White Bluff, or to a landing in that locality. Single fare to or from - 3 0

Two or more passengers, each - 2 6

From any public landing place, Onehunga Beach (when the tide is in) to a vessel off White Bluff, or to a landing place near that place. Single fare to or from - 2 6

Two or more passengers, each - 2 0

From either of the before mentioned places (which the tide may suit) to a vessel or a landing at Cape Horn. Single fare to or from - 3 6

Two or more passengers, each - 2 6

From any public landing place, Onehunga (which the tide may suit) to a vessel or a landing at the Whau Portage. Single fare to or from - 5 0

Two or more passengers, each - 3 6

From any public landing place, Onehunga (which the tide may suit) to a vessel in the vicinity of Shag Point, or to a landing near that place. Single fare to or from - 7 0

Two or more passengers, each - 4 6

From any public landing place, Onehunga (which the tide may suit) to a vessel or a landing near Little Muddy Creek. Single fare to or from - 8 0

Two or more passengers, each - 5 0

From any public landing place, Onehunga (which the tide may suit) to a vessel or a landing at Big Muddy Creek. Single fare to or from - 10 0

Two or more passengers, each - 6 0

From any public landing place, Onehunga (which the tide may suit) to a vessel or a landing at Paponga. Single fare to or from - 12 0

Two or more passengers, each - 7 6

Two or more passengers each way, each - 1 6

From Queen-street Wharf to Stokes’ Point, Shoal Bay, or Holmes’s Wharf, single fare to or from - 5 0

Two or more passengers each way, each - 3 6

From Queen-street Wharf to the Quarantine Ground, Rangitoto, single fare to or from - 12 0

Two or more passengers each way, each - 8 0

From Wynyard Pier to Vessels lying off the same, or to the anchorage known as the “Man-of-war Ground,” single fare to or from - 1 6

Two or more passengers each way, each - 1 0

From Wynyard Pier to Stokes’ Point, or Shoal Bay, single fare to or from - 6 0

Two or more passengers each way, each - 3 6

From Wynyard Pier to Holmes’ Wharf, single fare to or from - 4 0

Two or more passengers each way, each - 2 6

From Wynyard Pier to the Quarantine Ground, Rangitoto, single fare to or from - 10 0

Two or more passengers each way, each - 6 0

All other distances as per agreement, not exceeding 2s. per mile for single passengers, or 1s. 6d. per mile each for two or more passengers. From sunset to sunrise, and during stormy weather, when the Red Ball is hoisted on Queen-street Wharf, double the above fares may be charged.
