AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.
PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

Auckland, 16th February, 1870.
IT is hereby notified that the several applications for Mining Leases, at Coromandel, set forth in the Schedule hereunder, have been abandoned or withdrawn, and the land therein mentioned, in so far as not occupied under Miners’ Rights, is now open for occupation.

SCHEDULE.
Thomas L. Shepherd, for self and others, 15 years’ lease of 15 acres more or less; situated on the Tokatea block, Coromandel; bounded on the North by Kapanga Creek; on the South East by the “City of Athens”; on the West by the “Hidden Treasure,” “United Republic,” and “Pretty Annie” Gold Mining Companies; known as the “Bendigo” Gold Mining Company’s claim; application notified in Gazette No. 82, dated 29th October, 1869, page 1439.
James McGuire, for the Alliance Company, 15 years’ lease of 16 acres, or thereabouts; situated on the Tokatea Block, Kennedy’s Bay; bounded on the West by “Peep of Day” claim, known as the “Alliance” claim; application notified in Gazette No. 80, dated 22nd October, 1869, page 1373.
John Fletcher, 15 years’ lease of 10 acres, situated at the Pukewhau, and adjoining on the East side Henry Binns’ lease; known as the “Blackbird” claim; application notified in Gazette No. 80, dated 22nd October, 1869, page 1374.
Robert Burn, for the Mountain Maid Company, 15 years’ lease of 15 acres; situated at the Pukewhau, adjoining the “Blackbird”; on the East side; known as the “Mountain Maid” claim; application notified in Gazette No. 80, dated 22nd October, 1869, page 1375.
Patrick McCafferty, for the Star of Coromandel Company, 15 years’ lease of 16 acres, bounded by “Phoenix Park” on the South, on the East by Ring’s Driving Creek, known as the “Star of Coromandel” claim; application notified in Gazette No. 82, dated 29th October, 1869, page 1434.
Thomas Huntree, for the Dryadale Gold Mining Company, 15 years’ lease of about 9 acres; situated at Coromandel, adjoining the “Lakes of Killarney,” “Duke of Leinster,” “M’Isaacs,” and “Duke of Cornwall” claims; application notified in Gazette No. 82, dated 29th October, 1869, page 1435.
Thomas Whatoff Webster, for self and others, 15 years’ lease of about 4 acres; adjoining the “Shotover No. 1” claim, a creek, and spare ground in Kennedy’s Bay District; application notified in Gazette No. 86, dated 8th November, 1869, page 1504.
Frederick A. Blaydes, for the Old Kentucky Company, 15 years’ lease of about 3 acres; being all that piece or parcel of quartz reefing ground known as the “Old Kentucky” claim, situated on the Tokatea Range, Coromandel, and adjoining claims known as the “Ivanhoe” and “Golden Eagle”;
Application notified in Gazette No. 86, dated 8th November, 1869, page 1507.
Thomas Wallis, for shareholders of William Tell, 4 years’ lease of 10 acres; known as the “William Tell” claim; situated on the Kennedy Bay side of the Tokatea range, adjoining the “Indian Maid” and “Caledonian” claims; application notified in Gazette No. 3, dated 8th January 1870, page 17; withdrawn 5th February, 1870.
PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.
By virtue of the powers in me vested by the third clause of “The Highways Act, 1867,” I do hereby notify that all that portion of the Province of Auckland which is hereunder described shall be a District under the said Act, and that such District shall be known by the name thereto prefixed, that is to say,
The Parawai Highway District.
Commencing at the confluence of the Kakaramata Stream with the Waiwhakaurunga, thence along the Kakaramata Stream to the Eastern angle peg of Shortland Township Reserve, thence along the North-eastern boundary line of Native Reserve to the Church Mission land, thence along the North-western and North-eastern boundary of the Church Mission land to the Waikiekie Creek, thence down the said Creek to the Gold Fields boundary line, thence along the Gold Fields boundary line to the Waiwhakaurunga opposite Parawai, thence down the Waiwhakaurunga to the place of commencement.

PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.
In pursuance of the fourth clause of “The Highways Act, 1867,” I do hereby bring the said Act into operation within the Parawai Highway District, and appoint the first meeting of Electors to take place at the New Caledonia Hotel, Shortland, on Thursday next, the twenty-fourth day of February instant, at four o’clock in the afternoon.

I HEREBY notify that I have appointed Henry Hanson Turton, Esq., J.P., to be Inspector of Lunatic Asylums for the Province of Auckland under “The Lunatics Act, 1868,” in the room of Mr. John King, resigned.
