38 M George Baker 50 Cancer of stomach May 29 July 20 53 George Baker was admitted with chronic vomiting and difficulty of deglutition. He died rather suddenly, and on examination an ulcerated opening was found in the oesophagus, close to the diaphragm, allowing milk and soup to pass into the left pleura, exciting great inflammation in the chest. The cardiac orifice and region of the stomach were overspread with carcinomatous deposit. Stomach small and contracted. Heart small, adherent to pericardium. The latter was ossified in patches. Ascending aorta dilated; presenting several large aneurismal bulle, which resembled thimbles of bone. The aortic valves were shortened and ossified.
39 F Mary Donohoe 45 Apoplexy July 21 July 21 4 hours Brought to hospital in a state of profound coma, and died in the course of a few hours. Cerebral vessels gorged with dark blood, but no extravasation. At the base of the skull, on the right side, and attached to the lesser wing of the sphenoid bone, was discovered a tumor, in weight two ounces, of fibrous texture, rounded and flat, deeply impressing the under surface of the right anterior lobe of the brain, and destroying the right olfactory nerve. On the left side, a small tumor of similar character was found over left eye.
40 M Adam Ross 69 Diarrhoea July 28 July 31 4 Admitted in an exhausted condition from bowel complaint, which resisted all means employed for its abatement or arrest, and in a few days proved fatal.
41 M William R. Dickson 15 Injury of brain; from fracture of skull Aug. 2 Aug. 3 12 hours He was admitted in a state of deep insensibility, with an extensive transverse fracture of both parietal bones, with a lacerated wound of the scalp. There was also a fracture of the lower jaw, and another of the right thigh, with numerous contusions, wounds, &c. These injuries were received from a quantity of bricks falling on him from Messrs. Irelands' store in Durham-street, while on fire. He survived 12 hours.
