42 M Daniel Connolly 40 Hypertrophy of heart 1868 July 30 1868 Aug. 11 13 Admitted with signs of diseased heart, and chronic pulmonary inflammation, evidenced by cough, dyspnoea, viscid expectoration, lividity, &c. In addition to immense enlargement of the heart, the inferior lobe of the left lung was found in a state of purulent infiltration, while the left upper lobe, and the whole of the right lung was in a state of emphysema.
43 M James Stark 39 Hypertrophy of heart Aug. 4 „ 13 10 Admitted with general dropsy, sanguineous expectoration, urgent cough, dyspnoea. Heart’s action feeble, and only one sound could be heard. On examination great enlargement of the heart was found. Pleura full of serum. Lungs spongy, but of a very dark colour. Aorta thin and dilated, valves ossified.
44 M William Ratigan 27 Phthisis pulmonalis Aug. 5 „ 19 15 Sent from Tauranga, in the last stage of pulmonary consumption. The disease was more advanced in the left than in the right lung. Numerous tubercles and vomicae. Pericardium distended with serum.
45 M James Rolfe 35 Tumor July 28 „ 23 27 Admitted with a tumor in the right side, accompanying general dropsy. After death two globular tumors of large size, arranged in figure 8 form, were found attached to the concave surface of the liver, causing absorption of the substance of the latter, and protruding the parietes of the abdomen. The tumors were filled with atheromatous matter and hydatid cysts.
46 F Sarah Meatyard 30 Syphilis „ 25 Admitted with syphilitic ulceration of scalp, producing caries of the skull. Convulsions and coma preceded death. After death both anterior lobes of the brain were found diseased. The cranium was denuded of both pericranium and dura mater, which adhered strongly to the brain.
47 M Michael Brennan 65 Bronchitis, chronic Aug. 7 „ 29 23 Admitted with chronic bronchitis, with engorged lungs. A week before death erysipelas of the head and face supervened, which extended to the membranes of the brain, producing subarachnoid effusion and death by coma.
