IN pursuance of the power in me vested
by the fourth section of "The Highways
Act, 1867," I do hereby bring the said Act
into operation in the District of AHURIRI,
and appoint the first meeting of the electors
to take place at the Schoolhouse, Kaitaiia,
on Wednesday, the twenty-ninth day of
January inst:, at noon.

BuoY IN SANDSPIT PASSAGE, PONUI.

NOTICE is hereby given, that a can
buoy (red) has been placed on the
end of the spit running out (N.E.,) from
the Island of Pakihi, towards the Island of
Ponui, and lies in 12 feet low water spring
tides, with the following compass bearings.
Northern extreme of Ponui, E. ½ N.
High Peak of Pakihi, S.W. ½ W.
The channel, between the Buoy and Ponui,
is a cable-length in width, and has a depth
of 3 to 8½ fathoms at low water.

of the Mount Eden Gaol, is published for
general information.

HER MAJESTY'S GAOL, MOUNT

EDEN.

Auckland, January 7th, 1868.

SIR,—In conformity with Clause 13 of
the Prison Ordinance, Session VII., No. 7,
the Visiting Justices have the honor to
report as follows:—

1.—Repair.

The Gaol is in good repair.

2.—Additions made.

The only addition lately made has been a
slight increase in the "Female" department
buildings, to such extent as the outer line
of the Gaol area would permit; the Female
department being situated in an extreme
angle of the building with the buildings of
