  1. The following charges or fees, and on more, shall be taken from persons crossing the ferries at Alexandra, Cambridge, Hamilton, Te Rori, and Whata Whata:—

For each Passenger . . . . . . . . . . . 3d.
" Horse, Mule, or head of neat Cattle . . . . . . . . 2d.
" Sheep, Pig, or Goat . . . . . . . . ½d.
" Dry Cart, Carriage, or other four-wheeled Vehicle . . . . 2d.
" Load of Hay or Straw . . . . . . . . 3d.
" Single Bag or Package of Merchandise . . . . . . . ½d.
" Ton of Firewood, Goods, or Merchandise, not specially mentioned . . . . 2d.

But no charge shall be made for children under 14 years of age going to or returning from school, or for militiamen on duty.

  1. The boats or punts used in such ferries shall (weather permitting) ply, on demand, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily, and at other times, on payment of double charges.

  2. No ferry-man shall allow any boat or punt to be overloaded. In crossing any ferry, foot passengers shall have precedence of horses, cattle, or goods; and passengers on horseback, or in vehicles, shall have precedence of cattle or goods.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, the tenth day of January, 1867.

Present:
His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS by “The Marine Act, 1866,” it is enacted that the Governor may, by Order in Council, from time to time, delegate all or any of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said Act unto any person or persons, for any period, and subject to any regulations, restrictions, or stipulations which may be specified in such Order, and every such delegations may from time to time after be revoked:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Grey, Knight Commander of the Bath, the Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony, do, by this Order, delegate unto

Frederick Whitaker, Esq.,
Superintendent of the Province of Auckland,
such of the powers vested in me as Governor by section seven of the said Act as enable me to erect, superintend and maintain harbour-marks, lights, and beacons, now or hereafter to be placed within the limits of any port in the Province of Auckland, or the approaches thereto, subject however to such directions as may from time to time be issued by the Colonial Marine Engineer, as to the size, position, and colour of such harbour-marks, lights, and beacons; and to appoint and suspend or remove Port or Harbour Masters, and other officers of ports or harbours within the Province of Auckland; and to define and regulate the conduct and duties of Port or Harbour Masters, and other persons employed in carrying out the objects of “The Merchant Shipping Act, 1854,” and of “The Marine Act, 1866,” within the said Province; and also, within the said Province the powers vested in me by clauses ten, eleven, fifteen, and thirty-seven of the said last-mentioned Act, and the power vested in me by clause sixteen of the said last-mentioned Act, to exempt from pilotage, within all or any of the ports of the Province of Auckland, such Colonial trading vessels trading to the ports of such Province only as to him shall seem proper to be so exempted; to have and exercise the said powers hereby delegated to the said Frederick Whitaker, Esq., so long as he shall continue and remain Superintendent of the said Province, and no longer; subject nevertheless to such regulations as may from time to time be made by the Governor in Council under authority of clause fifty-one of the said last-mentioned Act.

HEREBY notify that the Chairman of the annual meeting of the Electors of the “Upper Mahurangi District” has, in accordance with the provisions of the “Highways Act, 1862,” presented to me, in writing, the names of the undermentioned gentlemen elected Highway Trustees for that District:—
