PUBLIC NOTIFICATION.

By JOHN WILLIAMSON, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Auckland.

WHEREAS a majority of the persons occupying property liable to be rated under the provisions of the "Local Improvement Act, 1858," having a frontage to that portion of the Cabbage Tree Swamp Road which is bounded on the one side by the road from Auckland to the Whau, and on the other side by the road which leads by the Three Kings to Mount Albert, and occupying at least one-half of the frontage to the said portion of the said street, have represented to me that they are willing to be specially rated for the purpose of improving the said portion of the Cabbage Tree Swamp Road aforesaid.

And Whereas, I, the said Superintendent, for the purpose of raising one moiety of the estimated cost of the said improvements, do hereby, by virtue of the powers and authority to me by the said Act given, order and direct that an equitable rate, at the sum of two shillings and sixpence for every chain of frontage to the said portion of the Cabbage Tree Swamp Road be levied upon all real property having a frontage to the said portion of the said Road, except upon such land as is by the said Act excepted. And I do hereby appoint that the said rate shall be paid and payable to ROBT. BAILLIE LUSK, at the Provincial Treasury, on the twentieth day of May next; and I do hereby further give notice that in the schedule hereunder written, is set forth a list of the names of the persons liable for the payment of such rate, and the amount payable by each such person.

Given under my hand at Auckland, in the said Province, the twenty-sixth day of April, one thousand eight hundred sixty-two.

ANNUAL MEDICAL REPORT OF THE AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL, LUNATIC ASYLUM, AND PRISONS, FOR 1861.

HOSPITAL.

Of the 4 cases of "Abscess" remaining last return, all have been discharged. The case of "Erysipelas" remains still in hospital, the subject being an old man unable to work. The 3 cases of "Blindness" remain still incurable. Of the 5 cases of "Disease of the Brain and Paralysis," 1 has died, 1 has been discharged, and 3 remain without prospect of recovery. The case of "Epilepsy" is still in hospital, unimproved. The case of "Pneumonia" was discharged cured. The "Asthmatic" case remains. The 2 cases of "Phthisis" have proved fatal. Both cases of "Hemorrhoids" have been discharged, cured; one after operation by the ligature. Both cases of "Fistula" have been discharged cured, after operation.
