NOTICE.
The Correspondence with the Resident Magistrate, Auckland, upon the undermentioned subjects, and the Correspondence with the Resident Magistrate, Onehunga, upon the appointment of a Clerk to his Court, are published for general information —
1st. The appointment of Clerk of Court.

3rd. Writs for Election of two Members for the district of the Suburbs of Auckland.

Sir,—In forwarding to your Honour the enclosed copy of a letter received from Mr. E. Barry, resigning his appointment as Chief Clerk in the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Auckland, I have the honour to inform you that if it be necessary to fill up this vacancy the appointment will rest with your Honour so long as the control of the Department remains with the Provincial Government.

Auckland, March 28, 1857.
Sir,—I have the honour to transmit my resignation of the office of Chief Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Auckland, which I have held for a period of eight years under the Colonial Government of New Zealand, a step I am necessitated to take in consequence of the course recently pursued by His Honour The Superintendent with reference to that Department, on the occasion of its coming under his control, in reducing the salaries of its Officers, by which mine, being diminished by fifty pounds (£50) per annum, is now wholly insufficient to meet my expenses.
Having received from His Excellency Governor Grey in the year 1849, my appointment, I conceive that I have forwarded my resignation to the proper quarter, and beg respectfully to submit it for the acceptance of His Excellency’s Government.
