STEAM FERRY TO NORTH SHORE.
Superintendent’s Office,
Auckland, March 31, 1858.
TENDERS will be received at this Office
until noon of Wednesday, 26th May, 1858,
from persons willing to contract for the maintenance of a STEAM FERRY between Stokes’
Point on the North Shore, and the City of
Auckland, for a period of one year, on the
conditions following:—
The Boat to start from Stokes’ Point from the
Queen Street Wharf every morning at eight
o’clock, and leave the landing place at Stokes’
Point on her return at half-past nine o’clock.
To start from the Queen Street Wharf for
Stokes’ Point every evening at 4 o’clock, and
to leave Stokes’ Point for Auckland at half-
past five o’clock.
The Contractor will be permitted to make a
charge for passengers not exceeding one shilling
each for adults, and sixpence each for children,
and a charge for merchandise or produce at a
rate not exceeding five shillings per ton.
Between the hours of ten o’clock and three
the Contractor would be at liberty to make a
trip to the Tamaki, to Howick, to Shoal Bay,
or other places within the Harbour as might be
found convenient.
There are at present three Ferries by small
boats from Auckland to the North Shore, viz.:
to Stokes’ Point three times a week, to Stewart’s
Point in Shoal Bay, twice a week, and to
the Flagstaff once a week. The number of
passengers who have travelled by these ferries,
during the year ending January, 30th ult., is
returned as 6046.

from persons desirous of furnishing the
undermentioned articles for the Provincial
Hospital and Lunatic Asylum.
Samples of each article of bedding and of
clothing to accompany the tenders.
Particular information may be obtained from
the Provincial Surgeon.
