PROVINCE OF WESTLAND GAZETTE.
under or by virtue of "The Gold Fields Act, 1866," except the powers conferred by
sections eleven, twenty-two, forty-eight, sixty, ninety-six, and one hundred and seven of the said Act, to have, hold, and exercise the said powers hereby delegated to me within the Province of Westland:
And whereas it is expedient that the under-mentioned persons should be allowed to collect such tolls and occupy the sites of the ferries mentioned in the Schedules hereto annexed for the periods set opposite to their respective names:
Now therefore, I, James Alexander Bonar, Superintendent of the Province of Westland, in exercise of the powers in that behalf vested in and delegated to me, do hereby notify that I have appointed the under-mentioned persons to be toll collectors at the ferries set opposite their respective names, on the terms as stated below, and subject to the conditions as published in the Provincial Gazette, No. 19, of the 29th April, 1874, and I do hereby authorise the collection of the under-mentioned tolls at each of the ferries, respectively.

SCHEDULE I.
JACOB’S RIVER—PEPENE POHORAMA.
- The ferry to be worked by boat.
- The amount of subsidy to be £25 per annum.
- All Government Officers on duty, and persons carrying Her Majesty’s mails, under contract, free.
- Protection to date from the 1st May, 1874.
SCHEDULE OF TOLLS.
For every horse with or without pack or rider ... 1 6
For every foot-passenger ... 1 0
Goods per cwt ... 0 6
SCHEDULE II.
PARINGA RIVER—WARD AND DOUGLAS.
- The ferry to be worked by boat.
- The amount of subsidy to be £50 per annum.
- The ferrymen to erect a wire bridge over the right hand branch of the Paringa River, in accordance with specifications to be prepared by Provincial Engineer; the Government to find the wire, and deliver the same at Paringa.

"The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1874," brought into operation in certain Provinces.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1874," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, on the request of the Superintendent of any Province, to bring this Act into operation in any such Province or any part thereof to be defined as a district under the powers hereinafter contained; and upon a Proclamation being made by the Governor in the New Zealand Gazette to that effect, this Act shall be in force within such Province or part thereof to be defined as aforesaid, as the case may be:
And by the said Act it is also enacted that upon any such request as aforesaid, it shall be lawful for the Governor, by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette, from time to time to define and describe one or more districts within any such province, with such boundaries as the Superintendent may think convenient; and the Governor may from time to time alter the boundaries of districts formed or hereafter to be formed under this Act; and in and by any such Proclamation he may assign to any such district a name by which it shall be called or known for the purposes of this Act:
And whereas the Superintendent of the Province mentioned in the first column of the Schedule hereto has requested that the said Act should be brought into operation within the Province for which he is such Superintendent, and also that the said Province should be defined to be a district as hereinafter mentioned:
Now therefore, I, the Right Honorable Sir James Fergusson, Baronet, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, and in compliance with the request of the said Superintendent as aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that "The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1874," shall be and the same is hereby brought into operation within the Province mentioned in the first column of the said Schedule.
