Fifth Half-yearly Report from the Committee of Management of the Hokitika Hospital to the subscribers and public generally, for the Half-year ending 31st December, 1871.
Your Committee beg respectfully to report that they still continue to hold weekly meetings and visitations, at the former of which the average attendance of members during the half-year has been between nine and ten.
They desire to thank all the Local District Committees for their continued co-operation; also the donors of books, &c., for the use of the patients; the Honorary Medical Officers, for their assistance to the Surgeon Superintendent; the newspaper proprietors for their files and donations of papers; and the general public for the interest taken in the Institution, and subscriptions and donations received.
The audited statements of accounts are appended to this Report, from which it is seen that the Committee commence the year 1872 with a balance due by the County Government of £636 2s. 8d.; and in Bank, £99 4s. 9d.; whilst their liabilities in unpaid accounts are only £252 10s.; and £482 17s. 5d., at the credit of various district accounts.
The cost for the half-year has been £2524 1s. 6d., being £46 18s. 1d. less than the corresponding half-year in 1870. The average cost per patient this half-year is less than it has yet been, as the following table will show:—
