SIR—I have the honour to forward here-
with the following documents, viz.:

  1. County Treasurer’s Account of Revenue
    and Expenditure for the Half-Year
    ended 30th June, 1871.

  2. Balance Sheet for the same period.

  3. Comparative Return of Local Revenue
    received during the Half-Years ended
    respectively the 30th June, 1871, and
    the 31st December, 1870.

  4. Statement of Assets and Liabilities.

The Account of revenue and expenditure
and balance sheet I have examined and cer-
tified to in the usual manner.

I am glad to be able to report that the
gross local revenue for the half-year ended
the 30th June, 1871, shows an increase on
that received during the previous half-year
ended the 31st December, 1870, in the sum
of £378 1s. 9d. The items on which an in-
crease appears are as follows, viz.:

Miner’s Rights ... £ 422 17 8
Spirit Licenses ... 107 19 0
Land Revenue ... 298 4 6
Tolls, Punts, &c. ... 197 19 10
Incidental Receipts ... 162 1 8

Total increase ...£1189 2 8

On the other hand, the items on which a
decrease appears are—

Gold Export Duty ... £ 401 1 9
Rents, &c., Wardens’ Courts ... 196 15 8
Mining Surveys ... 213 3 6

Total decrease ...£811 0 11

Increase during half-
year ...£378 1 9

In addition to the above, the County
revenue has also been augmented by the
sum of £4983 10s. 1d., being Westland’s
share of the released sinking funds on the
Canterbury loans in terms of Mr. Fitz-
gerald’s award in the matter of the appor-
tionment of the debt between the Province
of Canterbury and the County of Westland.

ERRATA.—In "The County of Westland Gazette," No. 17, of the 8th August, 1871, in
proclamation granting special claim to Stenhouse and party, in conditions recommended,
read "South Beach, Hokitika," in lieu of "Tucker Flat."

In same gazette, in proclamation granting special claim to Howarth and party, in
conditions recommended, read "Woodstock," in lieu of "Tucker Flat."
