✨ Land Regulations and Proclamations
PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the 33rd Section of
"The Goldfields Act, 1865," it is
enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor
or to cause Crown Lands situated within a
Gold Field to be selected and set apart for the
purpose of granting Agricultural Leases
thereon and therefor: Provided that the extent
of land which may be so selected upon any
run, which at the date of the passing of this
Act shall be held under a License or Lease
for depasturing purposes, shall not exceed
five thousand acres nor be selected in more
than two separate blocks without the consent
of the licensee or lessee thereof: Provided
also that when one half of any such selected
block shall have been sold or leased and shall
be occupied bond fide for agricultural purposes,
another block of similar extent may be selected
and set apart upon the same run:
And whereas by the 39th Section of the
said Act, it is enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor from time to time, to make
regulations prescribing the mode in which
applications may be made for leases of land
for agricultural purposes, the quantity of
land not exceeding fifty acres, which shall
and may be granted in a lease in any particular block, the amount of deposit to be paid
by any applicant therefor, and by any objector
the terms and conditions upon which
such leases may be held, occupied, assigned,
transferred, forfeited and cancelled, the amount
of rent payable therefor, and the times and
places of payment, the conditions upon and
the manner in which entry to search for gold,
or for any metal or mineral upon any land so
leased may be authorized, and the terms and
conditions upon which holders of Miner’s
Rights may be permitted to mine upon land
the lease for which shall have been determined
on account of its auriferous character, and
such regulations from time to time, to amend
alter and revoke:
And whereas by the 109th Section of the
said Act it is enacted that it shall be lawful
for the Governor in Council, under his hand
and the Public Seal of the Colony, from time
to time to delegate to the Superintendent of
any Province or to such other person as the
Governor may deem fit, all or any of the
powers vested in the Governor or the Governor
in Council by this Act except two, forty,
eighty, sixty, ninety-six, and one hundred and
seven thereof; subject or not to any limitations
or restrictions as he may think fit; and in
like manner to alter and revoke such
delegations:

in the Grey District, west of and about one
mile from "Mallets track" on the banks of
the Crooked river and including homestead,
and improvements of Mr John Evans.
Subject to goldworkings and necessary
reserves.
Block LV. (rural)
Containing Two hundred and ten (210)
acres. Situate in the Arahura District between
Hokitika and Ho Ho creek. Bounded on the
Westward by Block VII. (rural) and Block
XXII. (suburban), on the Southward by
the road in continuation of Hokitika Town
Belt North, on the Eastward by the terrace
West of Big Paddock, and on the Northward
by a line to include the quantity.
Subject to goldworkings and necessary
reserves.
It is hereby notified that the boundaries of
Block IV (Suburban) as gazetted in the
County of Westland Gazette, of 11th May,
1868, No 7; and the boundaries of Block LII
(Suburban) as gazetted in the County of
Westland Gazette of 22nd November, 1870,
No. 27, have been extended by the Waste
Lands Board, as follows:—
Block IV. (Suburban)
Situate in the Arahura District, between
the Hokitika River and the Big Paddock;
commencing at the North-east corner of
reserve No. 452 (in red), following Clogstone
Road to the Hokitika River; thence Easterly
along its bank to the mouth of Tucker Flat
Creek; thence Northerly on a bearing of 20°
14, magnetic, a distance of seventy (70) chains;
thence North-westerly on a bearing of 308°
(Magnetic) to the Pine-tree Road, thence
along Pine-tree Road to the continuation of
the North boundary of Reserve No. 452 (in
red), and thence in a straight line to the
commencing point.
Subject to gold-workings and necessary
Reserves.
Block LII. (Suburban)
Situate in the Grey District. Bounded
on the Northward by a line twenty-one (21)
chains from and parallel to the North boundary of rural section No. 1135, length sixty-
five (65) chains and bearing 274° 40'
(Magnetic), on the Westward by a line at
right angles to South side of New River
length forty-six (46) chains; on the South-
ward by a line parallel to North boundary,
length seventy (70) chains; and on the East-
ward by a line parallel to Western boundary
t. Cock-eye creek, and by Cock-eye Creek and
New River.
Exclusive of the township of Marsden and
subject to all necessary reserves.
