pleased to make the undermentioned
promotion and appointment, viz.—
In the 1st Westland Rifle Volunteers.
Charles Wilfred Seymour Chamberlain to be
Lieutenant. Date of commission 4th of
November, 1869.

IT is hereby notified that his Excellency
the Governor has assented to the Pro-
clamations by the Chairman of the County
Council of Westland under the Diseased
Cattle Acts, dated respectively the 25th and
31st January, 1870, and published in New
Zealand Gazette, No 8, of the 14th Febru-
ary, 1870.

WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the
Superintendent and Provincial Council
of Canterbury intituled “The Gibson’s Quay
(Ordinance Amendment) Ordinance 1867” it
is provided that it shall be lawful for the
Superintendent of the Province of Canter-
bury to charge and recover Wharfage and
Tonnage Rates on such articles landed upon
the parcel of land known as Gibson’s Quay
and upon such vessels loading unloading or
refitting at or beside such parcel of land or
any wharf erected thereon at such rates as
the Superintendent by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council shall
from time to time determine:
And whereas by an Act of the General
Assembly intituled “The Marine Act, 1867”
it is provided that the Superintendent of every
Province shall from time to time impose and
levy rates dues and charges for the use of
docks wharves piers and jetties and for the
landing of goods wares and merchandise
thereat and thereon:
And whereas by an Act of the General
Assembly intituled “The County of Westland
Act 1867” it is provided that all powers
which at the time of the passing of the Act
were vested in the Superintendent of the
Province either solely or with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council of the
Province shall within the said County become
vested in the Governor provided that the
Governor in Council may from time to time
delegate all or any of the said powers to such
person or persons as he may think fit:
And whereas by an Order in Council
bearing date the third day of February, 1869

Governor of New Zealand by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council
of the Colony did delegate to me, Conrad
Hoos, within the County of Westland, all the
powers heretofore of the Superintendent of
the Province of Canterbury exercisable
within the district comprised in the said
County:
Now therefore I, the said Conrad Hoos by
virtue of the powers delegated to me as
aforesaid and of all other powers enabling me
in that behalf do order and appoint that on
and after the 1st day of April, 1870, the
Wharfage and Tonnage Rates specified in the
schedule hereunto annexed will be enforced
on all goods landed upon the parcel known as
Gibson’s Quay aforesaid.
WHARFAGE DUES
Bran, two shillings and sixpence per 60
bushels.
Bricks, five shillings per thousand.
Carrots, two shillings per 2,240 lbs.
Coals, one shilling per 2,240 lbs.
Chaff, four shillings per 2,240 lbs.
Cattle, five shillings per head.
Dairy produce, bacon, beef, &c., two
shillings per 2,240 lbs.
Flour, two shillings per 2000 lbs.
Fruit (green), two and sixpence per ton
measurement.
Grain, two shillings per 40 bushels.
Horses, five shillings each.
Lime, two shillings per 2,240 lbs.
Machinery, three shillings per 2,240 lbs.
Mangold Wurtzel, two shillings per 2,240 lbs.
