CUSTOMS.
IN exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by "The Customs Regulation Act, 1858," I, the Commissioner of Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the undermentioned Warehouses, namely,
Port of Hokitika,
A Galvanised Iron Building situate in Beach street, in the Town of Hokitika, in the occupation of Mr Joseph Churches.
Port of Greymouth,
A portion of a Galvanised Iron Building, situate on the north bank of the Lagoon, off Mackay-street, in the Town of Greymouth, in the occupation of Messrs Hamilton and Nichol.
To be Warehouses for the reception of Goods under Bond.
Given under my hand at Wellington, this twenty-first day of October, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.

NOTICE is hereby given that protection has been granted for the period of five years to Messrs Learmonth and Smith, for a punt upon the Hokitika river, opposite the Kanieri Township, under the provisions of "The County of Westland Act, 1868," and subject to the conditions published in the County of Westland Gazette, No. 6, of the 13th March, 1869, and to the following:—

The punt, gear, and approaches to be maintained in good and serviceable condition, subject to the approval of the County Engineer.

The charges not to exceed the following rates:—
For foot passengers, each ... 0 6
For horse, mule, or ass each ... 1 6
For horse, mule, or ass, with pack, each ... 2 6
For horned cattle, with pack, each ... 2 6
For horned cattle, by the punt each ... 1 0
For horned cattle, swimming, each ... 0 6
For sheep, pigs, or goats, each ... 0 3
For vehicle drawn by one horse (empty) ... 2 0
For each additional horse ... 1 0
For dray loads, at 100lbs ... 0 3
For sawn timber, per 100ft. (super.) ... 1 0

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At Wellington, this sixth day of October, 1869.
Present:
The Honourable William Fox, Prime Minister, Presiding, and Members of the Executive Council.
WHEREAS by "The Marine Act, 1867," it is among other things enacted that the Governor may fix and levy port charges as in the said Act defined; and also, that the Governor in Council may, from time to time make, vary, and repeal bye-laws and regulations for fixing and authorising the levying of Harbour Masters’ fees, not exceeding the rate specified in the Schedule to the said Act; and for fixing the fees for licenses to be paid by any waterman, master, boatman, and others employed in working or navigating cargo-boats, ballast-boats, tank-boats, lighters, and all other vessels and boats whatsoever, whether decked or undecked, or whether propelled by steam or not; and for fixing the fees for licenses to be issued for or in respect of steam-tugs, cargo-boats, ballast-boats, tank boats, lighters, watermen’s and other boats; and to fix the pilotage rates payable at each port—not being greater than the rates specified in the Schedule to the said Act; and to fix the various rates of lighthouse dues—not exceeding those specified in the Schedule to the said Act, which shall be payable at any port or ports within the Colony, in respect of all vessels arriving at, and of all vessels leaving such ports.
Now, therefore, His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony, and in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said Act, doth hereby fix the port charges, harbour masters’ fees, fees for licenses, pilotage rates, and lighthouse dues, stated and set forth in the Schedule hereto, to be levied and taken at the several ports in the said Schedule mentioned; and with the like advice and consent doth order that the said dues shall be levied and taken on and after the first day of January, one thousand eight hundred and seventy. All former charges for the said purposes being from the said date repealed.
