NOTICE.

WHEREAS a house in Greymouth, known as the “Melbourne Hotel,” was destroyed by fire on the eleventh day of June last: And whereas an attempt was made to set on fire a shop in Greymouth, belonging to Sampson and Cook, on the twelfth day of July, and it is supposed that the said fires were caused wilfully by an incendiary or incendiaries, and that the said attempt to set the said shop on fire was wilful and felonious:

It is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor will grant a free pardon to any person implicated in the said supposed crime, not being the sole or principal offender, who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the perpetrators, or of any one or more of them.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint

Fitzherbert Dermott, Esq.,

to be Deputy Registrar of Marriages, and of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, for the District of Hokitika, as the same is defined in Proclamation of 13th day of July, 1868, and published in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 43, of 16th day of July, 1868.

It is hereby notified for general information that

Joseph Collyer

has resigned his appointment as a Member of the Board of Education.

WHEREAS by the 29th section of “The Gold Fields Act, 1866,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council to demise for mining purposes, to any person, for any term not exceeding fifteen years from the making of the lease, any auriferous Crown Lands not exceeding ten acres in the whole of alluvial ground, and to grant titles for machinery, and any necessary easements for the purposes aforesaid, subject nevertheless to the conditions or provisions in the said section contained.

And whereas, His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor of New Zealand, did, on the third day of February, 1869, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the Colony, delegate unto me, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of the County Council of the County of Westland, the power vested in him by the twenty-ninth section of “The Gold Fields Act, 1866:”

Now therefore, I, Conrad Hoos, Chairman of the County Council of the County of Westland, in exercise of the powers vested in me in that behalf, do hereby give notice that on the tenth day of September, 1869, I intend to demise to the persons named in the schedule A., hereto annexed, certain auriferous Crown Lands of alluvial ground, for the term specified in the said schedule.

Given under my hand, at Hokitika, this twenty-eighth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine.
