Hokitika,
4th January, 1869.
THE following tender of Captain C. S. Bascand, of the Steamer "Waipara," has been accepted for the performance of a bi-monthly steam service to the Southern Ports during the six months ending 30th June, 1869:—
The sum of £135 to be paid for each trip, and the sum of £10 (in addition) to be paid for each day’s detention during the trip beyond the specified time.
The following rates to be charged for passengers and goods:—
- Passengers to Okarito—Saloon ... 2 10 0
- " Steerage ... 1 10 0
- Southern Ports—Saloon ... 4 0 0
- " Steerage ... 3 0 0
- Cargo to all the Ports, per ton ... 3 0 0
All mails and Government Officers on duty to be conveyed free of charge.
The contract to be binding for six months only, and the penalty on either party for breach of the same to be a sum equal to the amount of two months’ subsidy, unless the same shall arise through stranding or unforeseen accidents.

Bye-Law of the Council of the Borough of Hokitika, made under special order of the said Council, dated the 30th day of October, 1868, confirmed the 27th November, 1868, and sealed with the common seal of the body corporate of the said Borough the 16th day of December, 1868.
In pursuance of Section No. 181, of part 13, of "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1867," the Council of the Borough of Hokitika ordain as follows, that is to say:—
1.—That the whole of Schedule 13 to the said Act is hereby adopted in and for the said Borough.
2.—The following Bye-Laws, heretofore existing, are repealed, that is to say:—
- The Bye-Law No. 1, intituled "A Bye-Law for compelling the removal of waste water, &c."
- The Bye-Law No. 2, intituled "A Bye-Law to prevent the deposit of rubbish within the Town of Hokitika."
- The Bye-Law No. 4, intituled "A Bye-Law to regulate the driving of horses and horned cattle."
- The Bye-Law No. 5, intituled "A Bye-Law to prevent the keeping of live swine within the town of Hokitika."
Passed by the said Council this 16th day of December, 1868.
