PROCLAMATION

By His Honor WILLIAM FITZHERBERT, Esq., C.M.G., Superintendent of the Province of Wellington in the Colony of New Zealand.

WHEREAS by “The Highways Act 1874,” it is among other things enacted that it shall be lawful for the Superintendent from time to time by proclamation in the Government Gazette, to divide any district or districts into two or more new districts, and that no such proclamation shall be issued or have any force or effect unless the Superintendent shall first have received a petition praying for the issue of such proclamation signed by at least two-thirds of the ratepayers, reckoned according to their votes, within the boundaries of the district which such petition prays may be established, and the remaining portion of the original district shall be immediately thereafter proclaimed a new district by the Superintendent, and shall be and be deemed to be a proclaimed district, and shall be dealt with in the same manner as a proclaimed district under the provisions of the said Act: and whereas by a proclamation bearing even date herewith, after reciting, as therein is recited, a block of land theretofore forming part of the Wanganui and Waitotara Highway District was from and after the date therein mentioned proclaimed and declared to be a highway district by the name of the “Wairoa Highway District”: and whereas it is expedient that the remaining portion of the Wanganui and Waitotara Highway District should be proclaimed as hereinafter provided:

Now therefore I, William Fitzherbert, the Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that the remaining portion of the said Wanganui and Waitotara Highway District, the boundaries whereof are described in the schedule hereunder written, shall from and after the twenty-seventh day of April now instant, be and be deemed to be a Highway District within the meaning and for the purposes of the said Act, and that such district shall be called and known by the name of the “Wanganui and Waitotara Highway District.”

Given under my hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Wellington, at Wellington, this tenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.

SCHEDULE.

All that block of land in the Province of Wellington, bounded towards the North-west by the North-western boundary line of the Province of Wellington, commencing at its intersection with the Northern boundary line of confiscated lands, and ending at the junction of the Ohura Stream with the Wanganui River; towards the East by the Wanganui River, commencing at a point where the said North-western boundary line of the Province strikes it and ending at its mouth; towards the South by the sea coast between the Wanganui and Waitotara Rivers, and by the Northern boundary line of confiscated lands from its intersection with the North-western boundary line of the Province to the Waitotara River; and towards the West by the Waitotara River. Provided that the town of Wanganui and the Town Belt adjoining the said town as the same are respectively described in the first schedule to the “Municipal Corporations Act, 1867,” shall not be included in any Highway District.

PROCLAMATION.

By His Honor William Fitzherbert Esquire, C.M.G., Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, in the Colony of New Zealand.

I, WILLIAM FITZHERBERT, do hereby rescind so much of the Proclamation published in the Wellington Provincial Gazette of Friday, the second day of April, instant, as authorizes the shooting of Tuis and Quail, in the Province of Wellington, and further proclaim and declare that it shall not be lawful to hunt, shoot, take, or kill Tuis or Quail, in the months of April, May, June, and July, anything in the said Proclamation contained notwithstanding.

Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of Wellington, at Wellington, this Eighth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.

Wanganui and Waitotara Highway Board.

CONSTRUCTION ORDER No. 11.

THE Wanganui and Waitotara Highway Board having examined the deposited plan, section, and specification, for the proposed Cross Road at Maxwell, and no objections having been made respecting such road, hereby order it to be constructed according to the line shewn by such plan, section, and specification.
