REPORT.
Whareama, 26th December, 1870.
Sir—
I have the honor to hand you the following report for the year ending 30th November, 1870.
I am sorry to report that so many flocks in the district are infected with scab.
The fears that I expressed in a former report as to spread of the disease have been realized.
I much fear the disease has obtained such a hold on some of the roughest runs in the District that it will prove a most difficult matter to clean the sheep on them; one run in particular, and, unfortunately, one that may affect the largest pastoral interests in the Wairarapa, is now so thoroughly impregnated with the disease that it will certainly be the work of years before it can be considered safe. The danger arises from the large number of wild sheep known to be in the surrounding bush.
Most sheep owners have erected, or are about to erect, proper appliances for dipping.
