Sir,—

I have the honor to forward you the above Annual Return of Sheep in the Wanganui and West Coast Districts for the year ending 31st May, 1871, which shows a decrease of 18,183 when compared with the returns of 1870.

I am happy to inform you that scab has been considerably decreased during the last six months, there being only four infected flocks at present in the district, as shown above. Within the next few months I hope to be able to pronounce the most of these clean if the spread of the disease can only be prevented until after shearing.

I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your obedient servant,

ROBERT K. SIMPSON,
Inspector of Sheep.

H. Bunny, Esq.,
Provincial Secretary, Wellington.
