RETURNS FOR MAY, 1869.

Sheep. Assessment.
... 71,771 149 10 5½
... 5,057 10 10 8½
76,828 160 1 2

The Sheep returned for the year ending May, 1869, by Europeans gives a total of 71,771, and by Natives 5057. The amount of Assessment on the whole is £160 1s. 2d.

There are six flocks still under Scabby report, viz.:

  • Major Edwards, Porirua
  • Mrs. M'Manaman, Terawiti
  • Wm. Luxford, Senr., Berhampore
  • Danl. Richards, Porirua
  • J. S. Smith, Wainui, West Coast, and
  • Messrs. A. and J. Wall, Pukurua

The Terawiti flock has much improved since last yearly report, and although under Scabby report at the present time, no appearance of scab has been observed since last shearing time, and there is every prospect of the flock obtaining a clean certificate after this shearing.

The flock of Mr. J. S. Smith will in all probability obtain a clean certificate before the close of the present year, as there has not been any sign of disease amongst the sheep for some time past.

R. D. WALLACE,
Inspector.
