Extinguishment of the Native Title over the Rangitikei-Manawatu Block.

HIS HONOR the Superintendent directs the following notification of the extinguishment of the Native Title over the Rangitikei-Manawatu Block, to be re-printed from the New Zealand Gazette, of the 16th instant, for general information.

IT is hereby notified, that the Native Title has been extinguished over the Block of Land whereof the boundaries are described in the Schedule hereto, subject to the exceptions therein specified.

SCHEDULE.

Province of Wellington, District of Manawatu.
Rangitikei-Manawatu Block; estimated to contain 220,000 acres.

BOUNDARIES.

Bounded on the north by the Rangitikei river, from its mouth to the Waitapu creek; thence on the east by a direct line from the mouth of the Waitapu creek to Te Umutoi, the north-western point of the Ahuaturanga, Upper Manawatu, Block; thence on the east and south-east by the Oroua river to its junction with the Manawatu river; thence by the Manawatu river to Pakengahau; and thence by the northern boundary of the Awahou block to Kai-Iwi; and thence by the sea coast to the mouth of the Rangitikei river, the commencing point.

There are excluded from the said block the lands comprised within the following boundaries, as shown in the plan filed in the Native Land Court, and referred to in the order of the said Court:

Land Court made on the 25th day of September, A.D. 1869, at Wellington, in reference to claims of certain natives to land in the said block, that is to say—

All that parcel of land, containing 4,500 acres, situate on the west bank of the river Oroua, and commencing at a point on the Oroua stream two miles to the south of the Awa Huri pa; and bounded on the east by the river Oroua till it reaches a point on the said river two miles to the north-east of the said Awa Huri pa, and extending back from the said two points on the said river Oroua in a westerly direction to a line running north and north-east in the manner indicated on the said plan, so as to include an area of 4,500 acres, exclusive of 300 acres reserved by the Crown as a reserve for Tapa te Whata, adjoining the said pa, and indicated on the said plan.

Also, all that parcel of land, containing 500 acres, situate on the west bank of the said river Oroua, and commencing at a point on the Oroua stream ten feet to the south of the south-west corner of the bridge erected by the Provincial Government of Wellington over the river Oroua, at a place a little below the junction of the Taonui stream with the Oroua; and bounded on the east by the Oroua river to a point on the said river where the northern boundary of the reserve made by the Crown for the Rangitane tribe joins the river Oroua, which northern boundary was marked on the said land. Thence in a westerly direction along the said boundary to a line drawn in a northerly direction at right angles to the said boundary shall meet a line parallel to the said boundary drawn in a westerly direction from the starting point aforementioned, near the south-western end of the said bridge, and so as to include an area of 500 acres as indicated on the said plan.

Also, all that parcel of land situate on the east bank of the Rangitikei river, commencing at a point on the Rangitikei river at or due west of the end of the fence on the northern side of the native cultivation at Huakitaiore, and bounded on the west by the river Rangitikei to a point at Tipaeahi, where a mark or pole was standing on the 26th of September, 1869; and extending back from the said two points on the said river in an easterly direction, so as to include an area of 1,000 acres, as indicated on the said plan.

Also, all that parcel of land situate at Oau, occupied by Wiriharai te Angi Angi, and including an area of 200 acres of land, neither more nor less, as indicated on the said plan.
