PROCLAMATION.

By His Honor Isaac Earl Featherston Esquire Superintendent of the Province of Wellington.

Whereas by an Act of the Provincial Council of the said Province passed in the Session holden in the XV. year of Her Majesty’s Reign intituled "An Act to regulate Brands for Sheep," it is amongst other things enacted that from and after the passing of the said Act it shall not be lawful to free any sheep from fire-brand or wool-brand within the said Province save and except by or with the permission of the owner and every person offending against this provision shall for every such offence forfeit and pay any sum not exceeding twenty pounds (£20); and whereas it is further enacted by the said Act that the Superintendent may from time to time appoint for each Electoral District or place such number of duly qualified persons to be Brand Inspectors of Sheep in each District as he shall think proper and shall prescribe the limits of the several districts of each such Inspector and shall also make such rules and regulations for the guidance of the said Inspectors and fix the fees to be paid for their services and prescribe the mode in which such fees shall be paid and collected;

And whereas it is expedient that the said Act should be brought into operation within such time as to the Superintendent shall seem meet;

Now therefore I, Isaac Earl Featherston, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, by virtue and in exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, do hereby proclaim and declare that for the purposes of the said Act, the said Province shall be divided into the undermentioned districts, namely:—

  1. The Wellington Sheep District.
    Bounded towards the North by the Manawatu River; towards the East by the Ruahine Ranges; towards the South by the Tararua Mountains and the South Coast to the Sea.

    The Islands of “Kawiti,” “Manu,” and “Mana” to be included within the said boundaries.

  2. The Wairarapa and East Coast Sheep District.
    Bounded towards the North by the Manawatu River and the Province of Hawke’s Bay towards the East and South by the sea, and towards the West by the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges and the western boundary of the Province to the source of the Manawatu River.

  3. The West Coast Sheep District.
    Bounded towards the North by the Province of Auckland; towards the East by the Province of Hawke’s Bay towards the South by the Manawatu River.
