the number of such Cattle, the particulars
as nearly as can be of the place or places
where such Cattle are kept or are, and the
brands with which they are branded.

That the Inspector or Inspectors for
the said infected Districts proclaimed as
aforesaid, shall make a Report in writing
to the Superintendent of the Province of all
things done by him or them under these
Regulations and under the said Act, as and
when he or they shall be required so to do. -
That the Inspector or Inspectors may,
if he or they shall think fit, grant a Cer-
tificate to the owner of any Cattle destroyed
under or by virtue of the said Act, or these
Regulations recommending a grant to such
owners of compensation for such destruction,
but such compensation shall in no case ex-
ceed £3 per head for Cattle under two
years, or £6 per head for Cattle above that
age.

Dunedin, 18th January, 1864.
A SPECIAL Gazette was Published this
day, containing—
A Proclamation, dated 14th January cur-
rent, declaring that from and after the said
14th day of January, and until further notice,
the following portion of the Province shall
be deemed an Infected District within the
meaning and for the purposes of the said
“Diseased Cattle Act, 1861,” that is to say
all that area situate in the North Eastern
District of the Province of Otago, bounded
towards the North, by Shag River; towards
the East, by the Ocean; towards the South,
by the Southern boundary line of the Wai-
kouvaiti Native Reserve, thence by a direct
line to Trigonometrical Station L in the said
Waikouaiti Survey District; thence towards
the West by a direct line to Trigonometrical
Station O of the Waikouaiti Survey District;
thence by a line due North to the Waikou-
aiti River, and thence by the boundary of
New Hawksbury Hundred to the Shag
River.
And that no Cattle, from and after the
date of the said Proclamation until further
notice, shall be permitted to be removed, or
transported from the said Infected District.
A Proclamation dated 16th January cur-
rent, declaring that from and after the said
16th day of January and until further notice,
the following portion of the Province shall
be deemed an Infected District within the
meaning and for the purposes of the said
“Diseased Cattle Act, 1861,” that is to say
all that area bounded towards the North by
Allen’s Creek to its source, thence by a
direct line to Trigonometrical Station O
Waikouaiti Survey District, thence towards
the East by a direct line to Trigonometrical
Station L in the said Waikouaiti Survey
District and thence by a direct line to Brinn’s
Point, thence towards the South by the
Ocean to the mouth of the Taieri River, and
thence towards the West by the Taieri River
to the Waipori Lake and the Waipori River
to Verter Burn, thence to Allen’s Creek, the
starting point.
And that no Cattle from and after the
date of the said Proclamation until further
notice, shall be permitted to be removed or
transported from the said Infected District.
A Proclamation dated 18th January, 1864,
prohibiting the Importation of Cattle from
all the Australian Ports with the exception
of Gipps Land and Mornington.
A Proclamation dated the said 18th day
of January, of Regulations for the destruc-
tion of diseased Cattle, and for preventing
the spread of the disease called Pleuro-
pneumonia. The said Proclamation is re-
published in this Gazette.

PROCLAMATION
By James A. R. Menzies, Esquire, Super-
intendent of the Province of Southland.
WHEREAS His Excellency the Governor
in Council has been pleased to dele-
gate, under the “Diseased Cattle Act, 1861,”
to the Superintendent of the Province of
Southland, the several powers vested in
the Governor by the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th,
and 10th sections of the said Act; subject to
the Regulations contained in the order in
Council of 18th October, 1861:
