Native Title Extinguished over the Waitotara Block.

It is hereby notified that the Native title has been extinguished over the block of land whereof the boundaries are hereunder described in the schedule hereto annexed, situate in the Province of Wellington, and containing by estimation 7,799 acres, more or less.

Waitotara Block. Estimated to contain 7,799 acres more or less.

Boundaries:

The Southern boundary is the sea from the mouth of the Okehu to the mouth of the Waitotara River. The North-western boundary is the Waitotara River from its mouth to the commencement of Porter’s line at Karewarewa. The Northern boundary is Porter’s line from Karewarewa to the Okehu River, and the Eastern boundary is the Okehu River from Porter’s line to the sea.

Those portions of land coloured red on the map on the back of this deed are not included in the present sale.

The boundaries of the portions of land remaining sacred to us are as follows —

1st. The first is called Okehu, situated on the banks of the River Okehu, and estimated to contain 38 acres; surveyed by Mr. Stuart, assisted by Te Peina; their survey poles are also erected.

Puke Ngaiu. The upper boundary of this piece of land is Mr. Porter’s line. The side lines were surveyed by Mr. Porter, assisted by Piripi and others; the side lines were surveyed by Mr. Stuart with Piripinehera’s “timber” poles on the northern side were erected by Piripi and Hune; those on the southern side by Tarakawa. This block is estimated to contain 3,300 acres. This block was formerly of larger dimensions, but this now has been reduced by Dr. Featherston; Mr. Porter and Piripi laid off the line reducing it, viz., the lower boundary was placed by Mr. Stuart at the junction of the Mangawhero and Waitotara Rivers.

2nd. The second, named Pakaraka and Tuhirangi, estimated to contain 500 acres; surveyed by Mr. Stuart, assisted by Hare and Hone; their survey poles are standing at the junction of the two rivers.

3rd. The third, named Te Mata, estimated to contain 1,223 acres. The boundaries of this piece were surveyed by Mr. Stuart, assisted by Piripi and Horopapera; their survey poles also are erected; it contains 58 acres.

4th. The fourth, named Manawaika, situated on the banks of the Waitotara River, surveyed by Mr. Porter, with Piringona and Hakaraia; they erected the survey poles. This piece is estimated to contain 90 acres.

5th. The fifth, named Pokekaema, situated between the Waitotara and Ohie Rivers. Mr. Stuart, assisted by Heturuka and Hare, surveyed this block, and erected the poles on the Ohie side. Rio, Ihaka, and Hona erected the poles on the Waitotara side. It is estimated to contain 925 acres.

6th. The sixth, named Aurea. The boundaries of this block were surveyed by Mr. Stuart, assisted by Kereti and Teritiu; their survey poles are erected on the Southern side. The Waitotara River is the boundary towards the South-east. It is estimated to contain 125 acres.
