Warrant and Instructions delegating to the Superintendent of Wellington certain powers under the Secondary Punishment Act, 1854.

By His Excellency Sir George Grey, Knight Commander of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its dependencies, and Vice Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by “The Secondary Punishment Act, 1854” it is enacted “that it shall be lawful for the Governor by instructions under his hand to delegate to the Superintendent of any Province on such terms and conditions and subject to such limitations and restrictions as may be prescribed in that behalf, all or any of the powers therein before reserved to the Governor” by the ninth clause of the said Act.

And whereas it appears to me expedient to delegate to Superintendents of Provinces the power of prescribing the roads and other public works upon which the persons in confinement as aforesaid may be employed from time to time.

Now, therefore, I, Sir George Grey the Governor of the said Colony, do hereby delegate to Isaac Earl Featherston Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, and to his Successors in Office, the power specially above set forth to be exercised by him within the said Province during pleasure.

Given under my hand at the Government House at Auckland, this sixteenth day of December, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and sixty-two.
