Council shall continue for the period of
four years from the day of return of the
writs for choosing the same and no
longer. Provided always that it shall
be lawful for the Governor of New Zealand,
by Proclamation or otherwise, to
dissolve the same whenever he shall
think it expedient so to do.
Now therefore I, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, do by this Proclamation
dissolve the Provincial Council
of the said Province of Wellington
accordingly.
Given under my hand at the Government
House at Auckland,
and issued under the Seal of
the Colony of New Zealand,
this second day of February, in
the year of our Lord One thousand
eight hundred and sixty-one.

Notice under the “Purchas and Ninnis
Flax Patent Act, 1860.”
Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Auckland, 6th December, 1860.
WHEREAS Arthur Guyon Purchas
of Onehunga, in the Province of
Auckland, Clerk, and James Ninnis of
the same place, Mining Engineer, have
in the manner provided by the Purchas
and Ninnis Flax Patent Act, 1860, deposited
in the Office of the Colonial
Secretary a specification of a certain invention
claimed to have been discovered
by them for the preparation of the fibre
Phormium Tenax, and other plants for
manufacturing purposes, and a statement
of the principles of such invention
and drawings thereof with references
thereto, and specimens of the manufactured
article resulting from such invention,
and also a declaration made by them
that they are as they believe the first
and true inventors of the said invention,
and whereas they have made application
for the issue of Letters Patent
for the protection of the said invention
for the term of 14 years. Now therefore,
I, Edward William Stafford, the
Colonial Secretary of New Zealand, do
hereby in pursuance of the said Act require
any person who may conceive that
he would be prejudiced by the granting
of Letters Patent for the said invention
to send to the Colonial Secretary at this
Office within four months from the date
of this Gazette (6th December, 1860),
a statement in writing setting forth the
grounds of such objection, subscribed
with his proper name and address.

WHEREAS Arthur Guyon Purchas

of Eden, in the Province of Auckland,
Clerk, and James Ninnis of the same
place, Mining Engineer, having on
the 10th day of October last, delivered at
the Office of the Colonial Secretary the
petition, and deposited the specification,
description, and other matters directed
to be so delivered and deposited by the
“Purchas and Ninnis Flax Patent Act,
1860,” of and concerning a certain invention
claimed to have been discovered
by them for the preparation of the fibre
Phormium Tenax, and other plants for
manufacturing purposes, and a statement
of the principles of such invention
and drawings thereof with references
thereto, and specimens resulting from such
invention, and also a declaration made by them
that they are as they believe the first
and true inventors of the said invention,
and whereas they have made application
for the issue to them of Letters Patent
for the protection of the said invention
for the term of 12 years from the said 10th day of October,
the like protection, rights, powers,
and privileges, as could be conferred
upon them by Letters Patent for the
said invention.
