PROCLAMATION.

Establishing District Courts Wellington, Hutt, Wanganui, Nelson and Marlborough.

By His Excellency Colonel Thomas Gore Browne, Companion of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.

WHEREAS by the “District Courts Act, 1858,” it is enacted that there shall be within the Colony of New Zealand Courts of Record, possessing Civil and Criminal Jurisdiction to be called District Courts, and the Governor is empowered from time to time as he shall think fit by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette to constitute throughout the Colony or in any part thereof Districts within which such Courts shall be respectively held, and such Districts to abolish and the boundaries thereof to define or alter, and also to declare by what local name such Courts shall be designated:—

And whereas by certain Proclamations made in pursuance of the said recited power, issued under the public seal of the Colony on the 23rd day of February, the 30th day of June, and the 30th day of June respectively, all in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine, the district of Nelson, the district of Wanganui, and the district of Wellington, were constituted to be districts within which Courts should be held under the said Act:

And whereas it is expedient to abolish the said districts and to establish other Districts in lieu thereof, and to constitute additional Districts in other parts of the Colony:

Now, therefore, I, the Governor, in pursuance and execution of the aforesaid authority, Do hereby abolish the said Districts and do proclaim and constitute the several Districts of the Colony hereinafter described or referred to to be Districts within which District Courts shall be held under the said Act:

And in further pursuance and exercise of the authority aforesaid, I do hereby declare the said Courts shall be designated by the names which are hereunder respectively specified, that is to say:—

Designation of Court. Description of District.
The District Court of Wellington. So much and such part of the Province of Wellington as is comprised within the Electoral Districts of Wellington City and Porirua for the election of Members of the House of Representatives.
The District Court of the Hutt. So much and such part of the Province of Wellington as is comprised within the Electoral Districts, as aforesaid, of the Hutt and Wairarapa.
The District Court of Wanganui. So much and such part of the Province of Wellington as is comprised within the Districts, as aforesaid, of Rangitikei and Wanganui.
The District Court of Nelson. The Province of Nelson.
The District Court of Marlborough. The Province of Marlborough.

Given under my hand and issued under the public seal of the Colony, at Government House, at Auckland, in the said Colony, the sixth day of September, in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-one.

Fixing times for holding District Courts at Wellington, Napier, Wanganui, Nelson, Marlborough, and the Hutt.

WHEREAS by the “District Courts Act, 1858,” it is provided that there shall be within the Colony Courts of Record possessing Civil and Criminal Jurisdiction to be called District Courts, and the Governor is empowered from time to time by notification in the New Zealand Gazette to fix times and places within the District at which every such Court shall be held:—
