NOTICE TO PERSONS HARBOURING, &c., DESERTERS FROM H.M. SHIPS.

Wellington, 24th January, 1861.
HIS HONOR THE SUPERINTENDENT has directed the following Clause of the English Act to be published, enumerating the penalties to which all persons harbouring, &c., deserters from H.M. ships are liable.

"XI. AND BE IT ENACTED, that every person who, by words or any other means whatsoever, shall persuade any Person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert or improperly absent himself from his duty, shall forfeit and pay the sum of Twenty Pounds for every such act; and every person who shall assist or procure any Person in Her Majesty's Navy to desert or improperly absent himself from his duty, or shall conceal, employ, or continue to employ any Person belonging to Her Majesty's Navy who shall be a deserter, or improperly absent from his duty, knowing him to be such a deserter or so improperly absent, shall forfeit and pay the sum of Thirty Pounds for every such Assistance, Procurement, Concealment, Employment, or continuing of Employment as aforesaid."
PROCLAMATION.
By His Honor Isaac Earl Featherston, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, in the Islands of New Zealand.
WHEREAS by an Act of the Provincial Council of Wellington, Session III., Number 8, intituled an "Act to Amend and Consolidate the Law relating to Cattle Trespass and Impounding," It is enacted, That the Superintendent may from time to time by Proclamation declare any Pounds to be, or cease to be Public Pounds within the meaning of the said Act, and may from time to time in like manner appoint, suspend, remove and reappoint keepers of such Pounds.
Now therefore I, Isaac Earl Featherston, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, Do hereby Proclaim the Pound erected on Rangitikei Quay, on the left bank of the Wanganu River, to be a Public Pound, within the meaning of the above-mentioned Act,—and that
ANDREW GREEN,
of Wanganui, shall be the keeper thereof.
Given under my hand and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Wellington, at Wellington, this twenty-sixth day of January, One thousand eight hundred and sixty-one.
