7th August, 1861.
The following Communication relative to the non-existence of Pleuro Pneumonia in this Province is published for general information.
J. Woodward,
Acting Provincial Secretary.
Wellington,
July 26th, 1861.
SIR,—I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 26th instant, requesting me to report whether any symptoms of the disease known as Pleuro Pneumonia have made their appearance in this Province. So far as my information extends I have much pleasure in reporting that no symptoms whatever of the disease have hitherto appeared in the district under my inspection. Moreover, being anxious that your Honour might be in possession of the fullest information, I have called upon the parties whose signatures are attached to the accompanying enclosure, to corroborate or otherwise my statement, some of whom are large cattle owners, and in no instance does it appear that they are infected.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient servant,
W. N. LUXFORD,
Sheep Inspector.
His Honour
The Deputy Superintendent,
Wellington.
