Provincial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, October 12, 1858.

THE following communication from the Honorable the Colonial Secretary, and Regulations therein referred to, are published for general information.

WILLIAM FITZHERBERT,
Provincial Secretary.

(Circular.)
Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Auckland, 10th Sept., 1858.

SIR,—
I have the honor to transmit to you the enclosed copies of a new set of Regulations, issued by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, respecting Lights to be carried by Sea-going British Ships,—which Regulations are to come into operation on the 1st October next.

The Rules for Steamers’ Lights, it is to be observed, remain as before: the Rules concerning Lights for Sailing Vessels, and concerning Fog Signals, are new.

As these Regulations are of great importance to the Mercantile community, and others connected with shipping interests, I have to request that your Honor will cause instructions to be given to the Pilots and Harbour Masters in the Province of Wellington to make them known to seafaring persons and shipowners, and also to use every means for giving them the widest publicity.

I have, &c.,
(Signed) E. W. STAFFORD.
His Honor the Superintendent of Wellington.
