PROCLAMATION.
By His Honor Isaac Earl Featherson, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, in the Islands of New Zealand.
WHEREAS by an Act passed in the second Session of the Provincial Council of Wellington, intituled “An Act to authorise the Superintendent to divide the Province into Shires and other minor divisions,” It was Enacted that the Superintendent, whenever he should deem fit, might by Proclamation constitute any portion of the Province to be a Shire, and also that the Superintendent might give to such Shires, such names as he might deem expedient.
And whereas it is expedient to constitute that portion of the Province of Wellington hereinafter described to be a Shire.
Therefore I, the Superintendent of the Province of Wellington, in virtue of the power vested in me in this behalf, Do hereby Proclaim and constitute that portion of the Province of Wellington comprised within the following boundaries, namely,—North, the Ngaruroro River from the Ruahine Mountains to Karito-whenua, thence by the boundary of the Mata Block to the Tukitukiriver, descending said River to its mouth, and there by the Sea.—South, the Waimata Stream, and the Northern boundary of the Akiteo block to the Puketoi Range, thence by a line to Puehutai, thence by the Manawatu River to the Gorge.—East, the Sea, and—West, the Ruahine Mountains—to be a Shire. And I do also Proclaim and Declare that the said Shire shall be called Waipukarau.
Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the Province of Wellington, this seventeenth day of August, One thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight.
