Volunteer Land Claims and Education Committee Elections

TARANAKI GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

New Plymouth, Nov. 20, 1874.

We, the undersigned, having at the request of your Honor, investigated the supplementary claims of persons applying as being entitled to receive scrip under the "Volunteer Land Act, 1865," have the honor to submit the following as our Report:—

The total number of supplementary claims was eighty-one, and of these we have allowed the claims of sixty-nine and felt ourselves compelled to reject those of the remaining twelve.

The total gross value of the scrip awarded to the sixty-nine applicants whose claims have been allowed, amounts to £970, of which £180 is for Volunteer service, and £790 for active service in the field.

Of the sixty-nine successful claimants, nine have previously had scrip awarded, and are appellants against the decision of the former Committee as to the amount to which they are entitled. The remainder have now advanced their claims for the first time.

(Signed) A. STANDISH,
C. D. WHITCOMBE.
