FOOTPATHS TO BE PROCLAIMED.

Superintendent’s Office,
New Plymouth, 10th July, 1873.

IN exercise of the authority given by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of Taranaki, intituled the “Municipal Police Ordinance, 1872,” I, WILLIAM MORGAN CROMPTON, Esquire, Deputy-Superintendent of the Province of Taranaki, do hereby give notice and declare that the undermentioned Footpaths shall henceforth be deemed and taken to be Public Footpaths within the meaning of an Ordinance of the Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand, and of the Legislative Council thereof, intituled “An Ordinance to provide for the protection of Footpaths in the Colony of New Zealand,” and shall be protected accordingly.

Gaol, New Plymouth,
1st July, 1873.

SIR,—I have the honor to forward the usual Report on the condition, &c., of the Gaol, for the half-year ending the 30th June, 1873; and also the half-yearly Return of Clothing and necessaries in my charge for the same period.

REPORT:

  1. The greatest number of Prisoners at any one period in the Gaol during the last six months was 7.

  2. The average number of Prisoners during the last six months was 5 163-181.

  3. The health of the Prisoners good.

  4. The conduct of the Prisoners good.

  5. Rations supplied by contract for Prisoners.

  6. Labor: Prisoners were employed at the Hospital Reserve, and with the Town Board.
