GAOL RETURN.
Gaol, New Plymouth,
January 2, 1873.
SIR—I have the honor to forward the usual Report on the condition, &c., of the Gaol for the half-year ending the 31st December, 1872, and also the half-yearly Return of Clothing and Necessaries in my charge for the same period.
REPORT:

The greatest number of prisoners at any one period in Gaol during the last six months was 7.

The average number of prisoners during the last six months was 4 7-84.

Health of prisoners good.

The conduct of prisoners good, with one exception.

The Rations supplied by contract, by the Contractor, caused much trouble.

Labour: Prisoners were employed with Town Board, except one day each week at Provincial Hospital.

As there is no prisoner at present available for cook according to Rule 89, the Gaoler has to provide one, and has done so since 7th September last by order.

SUPPRESSING A PUBLIC POUND IN THE OMATA DISTRICT.

In exercise of the powers vested in me by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of Taranaki, intituled “An Ordinance to restrict the Trespass of Cattle,” Session 18, No. 7, I, Frederic Alonzo Carrington, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Taranaki, do hereby notify that the following Public Pound is suppressed:—
The Public Pound, Omata District, appointed by notice in the Government Gazette, No. 18, 26th June, 1865, on part of allotment No. 8.

APPOINTING A PUBLIC POUND ON ALLOTMENT NO. 7, OMATA.

In exercise of the powers vested in me by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of Taranaki, intituled “An Ordinance to restrict the Trespass of Cattle,” Session XVIII, No. 7, I, Frederic Alonzo Carrington, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Taranaki, do hereby notify that I have appointed the following place to be a Public Pound for the purposes of the said Ordinance.
The Pound on Allotment No. 7, Omata.
