SIR,—I have the honor to forward the Annual Returns of Sheep for the Province of Taranaki.
I have still the satisfaction to report that the flocks in this Province are entirely free from scab, and when considering that five years ago there was only one clean flock in the Province, no clean ground available to remove the flocks to when dressed, likewise the fences and roots being infested with acari, and the numerous small sheep owners who would not be at the trouble to take care of their sheep until compelled, the result obtained shows that the Scab Ordinance of 1866, combined with the cooperation of the majority of the sheep owners, have successfully eradicated the scab from the Province.
The increased export of wool, alone shows great gain to the Province.
I have further to add that I take the precaution to dip (under my own inspection) all imported sheep, whether accompanied with a clean certificate or not.—I have,
