TARANAKI GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this second day of December, 1870.

Present:

THE HON. JULIUS VOGEL, COLONIAL TREASURER, PRESIDING, AND MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The District Courts Act Amendment Act, 1865," it is enacted that the powers conferred on Judges of District Courts in and by the twenty-fifth, twenty-sixth, and twenty-seventh sections of "The District Courts Act, 1858," shall be exercised only within such districts as shall from time to time be named by the Governor, by Order in Council published in the New Zealand Gazette, as districts within which such powers may be exercised :

Now therefore, His Excellency the Governor, in exercise of the power and authority so vested in him as aforesaid, doth, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, name and appoint the district consisting of the Province of Taranaki as a district within which the Judge of the District Court of Taranaki may exercise the powers conferred by the twenty-fifth, twenty-sixth, and twenty-seventh sections of "The District Courts Act, 1858."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS power is vested in the Governor of New Zealand by Proclamation to declare any house, building, enclosure, or place to be a Public Gaol :

Now therefore, I, Sir George Ferguson Bowen, the Governor, as aforesaid, do hereby declare and proclaim the following house or building, that is to say,

The House or Building standing on the land at the junction of Downe and Rose Streets, in the Town of New Plymouth, in the Province of Taranaki, heretofore used as a Military Hospital,

to be a Public Gaol.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Ferguson Bowen, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at Wellington, this twenty-second day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy.

Confiscated Lands Office,

NOTICE is hereby given that the block of timbered land situated at the northern end of the Railway Reserve, Patea District, and lying between the Ohangi and the Austin roads, is reserved till further notice for the use of the Settlers occupying the ten-acre sections at Hawera, who are authorized to cut such timber thereon as they may require for their own use.
