The following Statements having been forwarded to me by the Board of Road Commissioners for the 10th, 16th, and 19th Road Districts, in accordance with the 36th clause of the “Roads and Bridges Ordinance, 1858,” are published for general information.

TENTH, OR UPPER MANGOREI ROAD DISTRICT.

APPROXIMATE STATEMENT of the manner in which the Commissioners of No. 10, or Upper Mangorei Road District, propose to expend the Rates of the District for the ensuing year:—

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 21st October, 1870.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to grant Letters Patent, under “The Patents Act, 1860,” dated 14th day of October, 1870, in favour of Frederick Spear Grieves, of New Plymouth, in the Province of Taranaki, settler, for an invention of a certain process of smelting the Titaniferous Iron Ore or Sand lying on the sea beach of the Province of Taranaki, and all similar deposits.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to authorise William Smith Atkinson, of Taranaki, to act as Interpreter under “The Native Lands Act, 1865,” and “The Native Lands Act, 1867,” his certificate to bear date the first day of August, 1870.

His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint the following gentlemen to be Registrars of Marriages, and of Births, Deaths, and Marriages, for the districts set opposite their names respectively, as the same are defined in proclamations of 10th day of October, 1870, and published in New Zealand Gazette, No. 56, of 11th day of October, 1870, viz:—

Robert Chisholm Hammerton, Esq., New Plymouth.
James Hurst, Esq., Paten.

The above appointments are to take effect on and from the 15th November next.
