work or works in respect of which such scrip-
tions thereof as he shall think fit to such per-
has been granted may be situate..

  1. No greater sum shall be paid in land to
    any one person under these regulations than
    three hundred pounds in any one year, nor shall
    the total sums so to be paid within one year ex-
    ceed five thousand pounds, except under the
    direct authority of the Governor in Council.

  2. The particulars of every such work, the
    amount and the position of the land to be given
    in payment, and the name and residence of
    every person to whom such land is to be given
    shall be published in the General Government
    Gazette at least three months before the issue of
    any grant of the same.

Waitara District, Province of Taranaki,
to be sold on the 30th of November, 1867, may
be seen at the offices of the Crown Lands Com-
missioners of the various Provinces.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Confiscated Lands
Act, 1867,” the Governor is empowered
to reserve out of lands taken under the New
Zealand Settlements Acts, such lands as to him
shall seem fit, and thereout to grant such por-
tion thereof as he shall think fit to such person
or persons of the Native race as he shall think
deserving and shall appear to him to have acted
in the preservation of peace and order, and in
suppressing rebellion; and further to reserve out
of the said lands so taken as aforesaid such lands
as to him shall seem fit, and to grant such por-
son or persons of the Native race as shall be
proved to his satisfaction to have been in rebel-
lion and to have subsequently submitted to the
Queen’s authority. And whereas certain per-
sons of the tribes of Ngatiawa, Taranaki, Nga-
tiruanui, and Ngarauru have so acted in preser-
vation of order, and certain others of the said
tribe having been in rebellion have submitted to
the Queen’s authority:

Now therefore, I, Sir George Grey, K.C.B.,
in exercise of the above recited powers, do hereby
proclaim that five per cent, in the value of every
rural and suburban block within the districts of
Ngatiawa, Middle Taranaki, and Ngatiruanui,
before the same is offered for sale shall be re-
served for the benefit of such persons of the said
tribes of Ngatiawa, Taranaki, Ngatiruanui, and
Ngarauru, as were residing in the said districts
on the thirtieth of June last, and as the Governor may from time to time appoint.

Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Co-
lonies of New Zealand and its Depen-
dencies, at the Government House, at

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, the
twenty-sixth day of November, 1867.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN
COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General As-
sembly of New Zealand, intituled “The
New Zealand Settlements Acts Amendment Act,
1866,” it is provided that all land to be sold
under the provisions of “The New Zealand Set-
tlements Act, 1863,” shall be sold for such
consideration as the Governor shall from time to
time prescribe, and that all lands sold or other-
wise disposed of under the said first recited Act,
shall be sold or disposed of under Regulations to
be made by the Governor in Council, published
in the New Zealand Gazette.

And whereas by an Order in Council made
on the fourth day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and sixty-seven, and published in
New Zealand Gazette on the eleventh day of
February, one thousand eight hundred and six-
ty-seven, certain Regulations were made for the
sale and disposal of lands taken under “The
