NOTICE.

In reference to the order published herewith calling out the Taranaki Militia for actual service, I think it desirable in order to avoid causing groundless alarm to state that this step is taken as a precautionary measure only in consequence of the disturbances in the South of the Province.

To Major Charles Stapp, Commanding the Militia in the Province of Taranaki,

WHEREAS by the Militia Act, 1858, it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor, or such person as he shall from time to time by warrant under his hand appoint as his deputy for that purpose, to direct the Officer Commanding the Militia of any District with all convenient speed to draw out for actual service such Militia Force.

And WHEREAS by Warrant under his hand dated the twelfth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven, His Excellency the Governor did appoint me to be his deputy for the purpose of directing the Officer Commanding the Taranaki Militia in the Taranaki Militia Districts to draw out for actual service the whole of the men in those Districts.

Now, therefore, I, Henry Robert Richmond, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Taranaki, by virtue of the power vested in me by the said Warrant, do hereby order and direct you Major Charles Stapp, the Officer Commanding the Militia in the Province of Taranaki, with all convenient speed to draw out for actual service the whole of the Militia Force within the Taranaki Middle District.

Given under my hand at New Plymouth, this first day of October, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.
