NOTICE.

Signals in use at the Pilot Station, Mount Eliot.

IT is hereby notified for general information that the following Signals are now in use at the Pilot Station, Mount Eliot, and will continue to be used until further notice.

Signals to indicate Vessels coming in:

Ensign, and ball on west yard arm—Steamer coming in from South.

Ensign, and ball on east yard arm—Steamer coming in from North.

No. 1, of Marryatt’s code, (white with blue square)—Ship or Barque.

No. 2, of Marryatt’s code, (blue and white)—Brig.

No. 3, of Marryatt’s code, (red and white)—Brigantine.

No. 4, of Marryatt’s code, (blue, white cross)—Topsail Schooner.

No. 5, of Marryatt’s code, (red)—Fore-and-aft Schooner.

No. 6, of Marryatt’s code, (red, blue, and yellow)—Cutter.

Descriptive flag with ball over it—A vessel (of the kind denoted by the flag) passing.


Signals to Vessels in the Roadstead,

IN THE DAY TIME.

No. 7, of Marryatt’s code, (red, yellow cross)—You may approach with safety.

No. 8, of Marryatt’s code, (blue, with yellow square)—Keep to sea till weather moderates.

No. 9, of Marryatt’s code, (blue, and yellow at corners)—Slip and stand to sea.

Blue flag with ball over it—A Ship in danger.


AT NIGHT.

Two red lights, vertical—You may stand in; a boat will come off.

Two green lights, vertical—Keep out to sea.

Two lights vertical, the upper red and the lower green—The surf is too high to launch.

Two lights vertical, the upper green and the lower red—I wish you to wait till daylight.

Two green lights, horizontal—Police or doctor (as the case may be) coming.

Two lights, one red and one green, horizontal—Police or doctor (as the case may be) cannot be sent off.


SIGNALS

From Vessels in the Roadstead,

IN THE DAY TIME.

Ensign at the fore—English mail on board.

White flag at the fore—Colonial mail on board.

Ensign at the main—Police.

Blue flag at the main—Boarding Officer.

Blue flag at the fore—Medical assistance.


AT NIGHT.

Three white lights vertical—Police.

Two " " —Medical Assistance.

Two lights vertical, upper red, lower green—Yes (in answer to signal to wait).

Two lights, vertical, upper green, lower red—No, I cannot (in answer to signal to wait).
