PUBLIC FOOTPATHS.

Superintendent’s Office,
New Plymouth, February 5, 1866.

IN exercise of the authority vested in me by the “Municipal Police Ordinance, 1862,” I HENRY ROBERT RICHMOND, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Taranaki, do hereby give notice and declare that the undermentioned Footways in the Town of New Plymouth shall henceforth be deemed and taken to be Public Footpaths within the meaning of an Ordinance of the Lieutenant Governor of New Zealand, and of the Legislative Council thereof; intituled an “Ordinance to provide for the protection of Footpaths in the Colony of New Zealand,” and shall be protected accordingly:—

DEVON-STREET—The footway of the width of fourteen feet six inches on each side of Devon-street, from Dawson-street to Gover-street.

COMMISSION.

International and Industrial Exhibitions to be held in Bombay, Paris, and Melbourne, respectively.

By His Excellency Sir GEORGE GREY, Knight Commander of the Most Honourable order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, &c., &c., &c.

To THEIR HONORS THE SUPERINTENDENTS FOR THE TIME BEING OF THE PROVINCES IN THE COLONY OF NEW ZEALAND, GREETING:

WHEREAS it has been proposed that an Inter-National Exhibition of Works of Industry and Art should be held in Bombay, which Exhibition it is proposed should be opened on the fourth day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six.

And whereas it has been proposed that a similar Exhibition should be held in Paris in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven.

And whereas it has been proposed that a similar Exhibition should be held in Melbourne in the early part of the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight.

And whereas it is expedient that a Commission should be appointed for the purpose of securing the proper representation, at such aforesaid Exhibitions respectively, of the produce, arts, and manufactures of the Colony of New Zealand.

Now know ye, that I, the Governor, reposing great trust and confidence in your knowledge and ability have authorised and appointed you, and do by these Presents authorise and appoint you the said Superintendents for the time being of the Provinces in the Colony of New Zealand, to be a Commission for the purpose of securing the proper representation at such aforesaid Exhibitions respectively, of the produce, arts, and manufactures of the said Colony.

And I do hereby further authorise you respectively to appoint in the several Provinces of which you are Superintendents, local Committees of such persons as each of you may consider it expedient to appoint for the purpose of encouraging the production of articles to be exhibited.

And I do hereby further authorise you respectively to conduct communication between the Exhibitors and the Commissioners of the several aforesaid proposed Exhibitions.
