NOTICE
At the special meeting of the Justices of the Peace for the Province of Taranaki, held on the 3rd instant, it was resolved,—
"That from and after this date, any single well ascertained case of breach of the "Sale of Spirits Ordinance," may be deemed by the Magistrates as sufficient ground for refusing to renew the License of any Publican so convicted, at the next annual Licensing Meeting."

ORDER IN COUNCIL,
BRINGING THE "CROWN LANDS ACT, 1862," INTO OPERATION.
G. Grey, Governor.
At the Government House, at Auckland, the 28th day of February, 1863.
Present:
His Excellency the Governor in Council.
WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled "The Crown Lands Act, 1862," it is enacted that the said Act shall come into operation in each Province of New Zealand on and from a day to be fixed by the Governor in Council, to be notified in the Government Gazette of the Colony, and also of the Province to which such notification shall apply.
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of New Zealand, doth hereby order that the "Crown Lands Act, 1862," shall come into operation within each of the aftermentioned Provinces of New Zealand, namely, the Provinces of Auckland, Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Taranaki, Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, on and from the sixth day of April next.

HIS Excellency the Governor has received a Despatch, dated 1st August, 1862, from Her Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, to the effect that it has been intimated to His Grace by Earl Russell that His Lordship has been informed by the American Minister at the Court of St. James’s of the intention of the United States Government to issue Letters of Marque with a view to checking the hostilities carried on by the Southern Privateers against United States’ Commerce.
