PROCLAMATION.
By GEORGE CUTFIELD, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of New Plymouth.
WHEREAS by an Ordinance of the Superintendent and Provincial Council of New Plymouth intituled the "Thatch and Straw Building Ordinance, 1858" it is, amongst other things, enacted that on a day to be proclaimed for that purpose not being less than Six calendar months from the date thereof and on the same day in every succeeding year there shall be levied in respect of every house, building, shed, stack, or pile of any description whatsoever constructed or composed wholly or in part of raupo, nikau, toetoe, wiwi, kakaho, straw, hay, thatch, or other like inflammable materials, and situate within the boundaries therein defined, the sum of Twenty pounds. And also that if any person shall erect, or cause to be erected any building or structure of the descriptions aforesaid within such boundaries, he shall forfeit and pay for every such offence the sum of Twenty pounds.
Now therefore I, the Superintendent, do hereby proclaim and declare the provisions of the said Ordinance to be in force from and after the date hereof within such part of the Town of New Plymouth as is comprised within the boundaries defined in the Schedule hereto. And that on the first day of October 1859, and on the same day in every succeeding year there shall be levied in respect of every building or structure of the descriptions aforesaid and situate within the said boundaries the sum of Twenty pounds.
Given under my hand at New Plymouth, this ninth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight.

SCHEDULE.
Boundaries referred to.
Commencing at the sea beach in line with Dawson street, thence along the sea beach to the Kawau pa Reserve, thence along the western, southern, and eastern boundaries thereof to the sea beach, thence along the sea beach to Eliot street, thence along Eliot street to Leach street, thence along Leach street and Vivian street to Robe street, thence along Robe street to Fulford street, thence along Fulford street to Dawson street, and thence along Dawson street to the sea beach.
NOTICE TO RATEPAYERS.
Provincial Treasurer's Office,
New Plymouth, 8th December, 1858.
THE attention of Ratepayers is directed to the 27th clause of the "Roads and Bridges Ordinance, 1858," which enacts that "at the expiration of two months from the day on which any rate shall become payable it shall be the duty of the Provincial Treasurer to sue or take other proceedings for the recovery of any rates which may be wholly or in part unpaid."
