THE following despatch from the Colonial Treasurer is published for general information.

Sir,—I have the honor to inform you that in consequence of the necessity of making provision during the current year for Military Services, the General Government has been compelled to relinquish for the present its intention of increasing the rate of the advances to the Provinces on account of the surplus Revenues of the year ending 30th June, 1859.

These advances will therefore for the present be continued at the same rate as during the past financial year, namely three-eighths of the gross Customs receipts in the several Provinces.

ERADICATION OF THISTLE.

Provincial Secretary's Office,
New Plymouth, 29th September, 1858.
TENDERS for the eradication of the Scotch Thistle on the Native Reserves Nos. 3 and 4 in the Mangorei road for the term of one year commencing 1st November next will be received at this office until noon of Saturday the 16th October next.

Further information may be obtained on application at this office.
